From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

At first I though it odd to review a funeral provider, but after I thought about it a little more, it seemed essential to tell people how good Paul Bysouth is, so that people know there is someone they can trust when they are at their most vulnerable.
My mother chose Paul Bysouth for my dad's burial in 2012, I don't know why, but it was a very good choice. They were so kind to my mum and our family and could not have been more thoughtful.
When my mother passed away in June it seemed an obvious choice to use Paul Bysouth again, and I'm glad I did. From day 1 Eliza was so incredibly helpful and considerate, that it felt like I could almost relax knowing I had the support I needed. Nothing was ever too much effort, her kind words, her responsiveness and the services they offer meant I knew I could find something my mother would have wanted. And not once did I ever feel like I had to chase for information, if it was important, I was informed proactively, without ever feeling pressured.
My family and I can't thank Eliza and her colleagues enough. I would recommend them to anyone.
I would like to thank Paul Bysouth Funeral Services for the wonderful care they put into easing the loss of our loved ones . Both my Grandmother and Grandfather were looked after impeccably after their passing . The kind words and thoughtfulness I received from Jayne and James gave me a lot of comfort when I felt saddened at our family loss. Please be assured that their care for your loved one and their family is very important and foremost in their funeral care . Thank you very much to this company and its services and especially to Jayne and James xx
This is the first time I have had to make arrangements for a funeral of a loved one and the team were very helpful, understanding and I felt respected by team. The name Dignity says it all. Many thanks
I have recently lost my mother and Paul Bysouth and Son took care of my mother, me and my family right the way through to recieving the ashes. I cant speak highly enough of them. Jayne helped me with everything (with tact and respect) making the whole process as easy as possible, James stepped in when Jayne was unavailable so I was never left without assistance. Rev Paul McMichael was amazing and conducted the best service I've ever attended and Will was so helpful and caring at the funeral. So this is a big thank you to all of you and I HIGHLY recommend them if you have or are about to be bereaved.
Jayne you were truly amazing supporting my daughter through the process after her father died. You went above and beyond and I will forever be grateful. I can highly recommend this funeral directors.
