From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.

A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.

Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

The arrangements for the funeral of my husband were carried out efficiently and sympathetically by the ladies at the office. They were very helpful and offered suggestions when required , and on the day of the funeral I noted that they had gone above and beyond what I had expected . They had arranged for the screens to have a bowling picture with his name on, also an enlarged photograph by the coffin.

The undertakers were very caring and extremely respectful to the departed, and the immediate mourners were kept informed and asked their preferences as to the way they wished to proceed in respect of the service at the crematorium and graveside.

The experience we received made a sad day into a memorable one, and my thanks to everyone at Titfords.

The service we received was excellent right from the call on the night my Father passed. All the team were respectful, calm and reassuring. At each stage it was explained and always backed up with paperwork, cost and confirmation. The day of the service the team leader was really nice, calm and so professional. After the service the office based team were so nice in having to give us the invoice and taking payment.

I summary the whole team were respectful, professional and a pleasure to work with.

Thank you very much.

The service my family received from Titfords was beyond the 4 stars. Right from the start they organised an affordable package, putting everything in place to make a sad situation more bearable. We were kept informed on every step. We never had to wait for a response. The excellent customer service was fantastic especially from Amii. On the day, as my brother who had passed was a popular member of the community, a procession was organised along Connaught Avenue to celebrate his life-led by Scott the funeral director, this took place on time and with dignity and class, going beyond our expectations. The service was organised exactly to our wishes with my brothers music and the visual tribute was beautifully created. The celebrant conducted the ceremony with respect and exactly how my brother had wanted.

It is an irony to recommend a funeral directors, my family would recommend Titfords whole heartedly.
