From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

We said goodbye to my mum today. Laura at warriners was rhe kindest person and made sure we understood everything. She show patience and professionalism when we rang her numerous times to change this or add that. She gave us the name of the celebrant, Sonia storm, who again, was kind and professional and spoke as if she knew my mum. She'd captured our words beautifully. Lastly, Caroline and her team who guided us every step of the way at the crematorium. My family and I are truly grateful for their help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
Tracy and the team were absolutely marvellous. So professional in helping us to organise my mother in law's funeral. The celebrant, the funeral director, chauffer and bearers were so respectful and the flowers were just beautiful.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us on your online review. I am glad that we were able to provide you with the dignity and respect needed at this time. I am pleased that the arrangements for your mother in law were carried out to your satisfaction.
Tracy at Warriner and Sons was efficient and thorough, handling all of our requirements
I am pleased that all of the arrangements were carried out to your satisfaction. Thank you for sharing your views with us on your online review.
Lovely, caring people who helped & advised us in a sympathetic, supportive way. Every step of the way, from our initial appointment to make the arrangements to the day itself was taken care of brilliantly.
We really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and being open with us about the service we provided. We know how special each person is and aim to convey this in all aspects of our work from the arrangements to the day of the service. The team will be very pleased to hear that their care and support made a difference to your family.
Warriners were the nominated funeral directors for my mother, Pamela Skeels, who had a pre paid funeral plan and Warriners were nominated by her.
The service proveided by Warriners was excellent. From the time of the initial contact and up to and including the present time the staff member that dealt with our family....a lady named Tracy...could not have been more helpful.
She gave us all the information required and covered points that we had not even considered.
She stayed in regular contact and made all the necessary arrangements, including service sheets and a web cast for those unable to attend due to Covid restrictions.
A very difficult time for the family made simpler and much less stressful thanks to the wonderful service provided by Warriners office staff and the funeral directors on the day, who also made contact with me prior to the funeral.
Once again a big thank you for a very impressive company and staff
We really appreciate you leaving a review online for Warriner & Sons Funeral Directors. I am happy that the pre-paid funeral plan made it easier to arrange the service for your Mother and that you had the trust and confidence in our team to be able to deliver the service you expected.
