From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

My late father paid for his funeral upfront before he passed away, only to be charged additional fees not discussed at time of booking his funeral. Disappointed to say the least.
After recieving several letters for grave digging fees when actually it was a cremation is lack of knowledge and disrespectful. When I called the office after struggling to get through on the phone, I was told it was an admin error it was for additional minister fees. then to be told it would be sent on to debt collectors if I didn't pay in 7 days. So I paid to avoid debt collectors for a service I didn't have.
I would not recommend this funeral directors to any family or friends

From start to finish the guys at Thomas Fowle & Sons were simply amazing. They went above and beyond! From the initial meeting with Jenny to the final handshake with Charlie it was faultless. Lots of advice and guidance along the way. The funeral was a little different with an old fire engine carrying the coffin for the last bit, Charlie took the time to research the dimensions of the vehicle and formed a perfect plan! 😍🤩😘

My mum recently passed away and she had a prepaid funeral plan. From the initial contact through to the funeral the contact was exemplary. Jenny went through everything with us for the arrangements and Charlie ensured that it all went smoothly on the day. Highly recommended.
