From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

Thank you soo much. If Carlsburg did funerals parlours, these would be the one.🙂 Francis and Hannah did everything to make our experience easy, whilst we organised the funeral. I can't praise them enough. Chris & Steve.
After losing my wife at a young 61 suddenly and without without prior knowledge of her condition my world crumbled and for the first time in my life I was totally lost, this is where Francis and Hannah stepped in to help me navigate my way through the necessary arrangements which needed to be done.
They were very open compassionate and helped with organising everything we had wished for in celebrating a loved ones life taking time to listen being an ear to ones story of a life lived.
On the day of the service it was carried out professionally smoothly and well orchestrated by Hannah and the team, so for me it cannot be anything but the upmost of praise for all they have done for my wife Mandie, myself and the family
Thank you x

I cannot thank Francis enough for her so incredibly kind, compassionate & efficient support. Hannah is simply an amazing Funeral Director & literally went the extra mile to make our day special. Also must highly recommend our lovely celebrant Aussie Geoff. He is a legend!! The cars were new & our lovely driver Sarah was great. Was so grateful that they were there for me and took the stress out off the saddest of days. Cannot fault them on anything.
Thank you for taking the time to send us your online review. Your feedback is always valuable to us. We are very proud of our team and the care they give and it means the world when we hear from the families that we have looked after.
Thank you for making our experience so lovely and chilled, not even buried our mumma yet but we know she is in safe hands with you. X
I am glad that we were able to provide you with the dignity and respect needed at this time. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
Thank you to Francis, Emma and all the team for their hard work and consideration throughout the whole process. We cannot fault the work of Francis from the initial consultation, who helped to make a difficult time as easy as can be. Every aspect of the planning process was handled with care, ease and without difficulty. We would also like to thank Alyssa and the team who conducted on the day of the funeral to ensure that it went off without a hitch. They truly went above and beyond! Could not recommend them more. Thank you.
It is always good to hear that individual members of our team have provided a service to you to the best of their ability. The team will be very pleased to hear that their care and support made a difference to your family
