From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

From the first phone call I was guided with such care and professionalism by Claire and I will remain forever grateful for the the service I received
From the initial call to Kettle on the passing of my mother, to the end of the funeral service, Kettle have been nothing but professional. The directors treated my mother with dignity when collecting her and Claire helped immensely in explaining the requirements of a cremation and the selection of service order. We received a daily call from Claire to keep us updated and to ensure that all our questions were either answered or dealt with by others. On the day of the funeral the staff from Kettle ensured that the collection of mourners, the journey to the crematorium and the service went without a hitch.
The family would like to thank Kettle for their professional approach and if my mum were still here, even she would give kettle 5 stars on 'FinalTripAdvisor'!

Brian was very attentive to everyone’s needs on the day and it ran very smoothly. The only thing that has come to light is that my daughter and I don’t think it was very clear about what type of grave we would have. Obviously it was a difficult time and it may be possible we missed it but we have a lawn grave and we would have preferred a traditional one. Don’t think this is going to be a problem as my daughter has spoken to the council. It’s just something I think should be explained and pointed out more. As I’ve said I we were were very pleased with everything. Thank you

Thank you for your 5* review
The whole team helped make a truly awful experience as good as it could get the embalming made Craig look so peaceful and normal . Clare was amazing supplying endless cups of tea tissues and biscuits .she always knew what to say .she didn't think I was abnormal wanting to be with Craig everyday she always had time for me .on the day of the funeral it went perfectly they helped me through it all explaining what would happen . I would use them again and recommend them to anybody . The only thing I could fault was I had to source my own ash to glass jewellery rather than you sorting that for me .but job well done so professional I went to a funeral the other day and it did not run like that at all that was with another company .
Thank you for your 5 star review and for your lovely comments. I am sorry to note that you were unhappy that you had to source your own ashes to glass jewellery service. If you would like to discuss this further please contact our Client Relations Team on 0800 783 7171, they are avilable Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
