From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.

A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.

Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

GF Hunts were so easy to deal with at such a sad time. We felt real compassion and understanding from the very begining. Clare she was brilliant and the showed care compassion and understanding. Nothing was ever to much trouble just amazing we couldn' t of wished for better. Michelle was also really good and very professional with a call the night before to reassure us all was in hand was very calming and kind. We are very grateful thank you to all involved.

Clare couldn't have been more empathetic. I was encouraged to contact her at any time during my grieving process, and I believe that to be sincere.

My husband's cremation and, by her recommendation, the venue for the Wake, were perfect.

Avoid this funeral directors at ALL costs. They are owned by the dignity group but show absolute NO dignity or respect. We were horrified at the horrendous way they treated my father when they came to our home to collect him. Two women were sent who were incapable of managing a dignified handling of my father. On being told the family did not want to see my deceased father carried out as we had said our goodbyes before they arrived we could hear bangs upstairs which distressed my mother so much she was panicking. We could hear them say how they were sweating and how he was breaking their back. Eventually they got him to top of landing and came downstairs and proceeded to say they could not manage and asked if one of us could help them get him downstairs. My 20 year old daughter had to help them stand up my father who died 8 hours previous and supported his head and shoulders whilst they strapped him in😨😱. She was mortified as my dad at peace image was ruined and this was her last goodbye. But it was even worse !!!😱they then disrespectfully bumped him down the step. THEN!!!!! As they said again they were sweating and my dad ( who had not ate or drunk for past 5 days and very thin!) was breaking their back my daughter ( and even a neighbour!!!!) had toget into the private ambulance and help lift him in!!!! The easy my poor deceased father was treated was DISGUSTING! They did quickly say sorry and usually it’s not like that but my dad deserved better than that! I would HATE for ANYONE to have to experience this and it’s left us traumatised. What’s even worse is after this ( even day after!) we did not even get a call to apologise or inform us all was ok other end. I was disgusted and this was SO UNDIGNIFIED!!! Indeed it was so bad we actually got another funeral director to go pick him up from hunts the next day and take him to them- indeed they have been amasing and were utterly shocked to hear our devastating experience. At what was the hardest time of our life where my poor dad left far too soon we were massively failed by dignity and hunts and even 8 days later no apology. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS FUNERAL DIRECTOR FOR YOUR LOVED ONE! their lack of respect and apauling treatment of my precious father was horrendous!

Hunts has just helped us organise Mum's funeral and managed everything beautifully for us. Special shout out to Clare who was kind, considerate and patient at a difficult time for us. I would definitely recommend them.

G F Hunt recently dealt with the funeral of our mother - Shirley Durston - which was faultless in all respects. From initial contact to Mum's internment the empathy shown and advice given was second to none. A great team at all levels. Thank you for making everything so easy for all of our family at such a difficult - and uncharted - time. Best Regards. BJD.
