Frequently asked questions

When someone dies, the first steps will depend on how and where the person passed away. Our step-by-step guides will walk you through the practical steps. For additional support and personal advice, please get in touch with us.

You don't have to make an appointment at our funeral homes. However, doing so will ensure that someone can be available to cater to your needs. When arranging a funeral, our Funeral Directors are happy to visit you in your own home, if required.

Third party funeral costs are additional charges which we will manage for you and attach to your single invoice. Get in touch with us to confirm costs and plan a funeral to fit your budget.

If you choose to arrange the funeral with us, you will be given the option of a complimentary Funeral Notice. We will set it up for you using the details discussed during the arrangements. All we need is an email address.

Dignity Funeral Plans let you pay for your funeral in advance and at today's price. It's a way of taking control of the unexpected, setting out the arrangements and limiting the costs by paying for the services included in the funeral plan upfront.

We are a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors and as such we abide by The Funeral Director Code. We also have a legal obligation to try and ensure the person who is arranging a funeral has the right to do so, or has permission from those who do.

If you are aware that someone has been appointed as the administrator, you should only arrange the funeral with this person's agreement.

If there is no Will or Letters of Administration, then the responsibility would pass to the next of kin.

From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.

A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.

Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

I would like to thank all the staff at C &A funeral Directors john,Ian and Sharon am sorry if ive missed anyone or got names wrong for looking after my late dad and they also looked after my late mum and my late dad. my late dad became freinds with the staff at C and A after my late mum passed they so professional, friendly helpful and kind and nothing is too much trouble they go above and beyond they took great care of my late dad and they did everything we asked for my late dad was a massive snooker fan and we asked if we could have a snooker table engraved on my dad name plate along with his name and they arranged it and did that for us which we loved it was perfect they also suggested that we bring my dads snooker cue in so they could lay it on his coffin and we never thought of that the ideas they gave us was brilliant we also noticed in the reception area that they had jewellery pendents that you could have finger prints taken of your loved one we loved that idea so we enquired about it but we thought it might have been to late but luckily it wasn't they said we could have it done for which we are thankful for they explained what they had to do and we was asked what hand we like and what fingers we would like to use we said all of fingers my dad's left hand on the day of my dad's funeral everything went perfectly but on our way to the crematorium a really bad disrespectful driver cut up our limousine that we was in that was following the other limousine but our driver was very professional and dealt with it very professionally too I cant praise him enough ❤️ after the funeral they took us to our place of the wake and the limousine drivers took care off our flowers and they all wish us well and to take care honestly there were all absolutely amazing.i would also like to thank Sharon and john for shorting out our order for the finger print pendent we had a few problems with it but that wasnt Sharon's fault it was the jewellery company Sharon sorted everything out and she explained everything to me and kept me updated every step of the way with our order and she made sure everything was just right for us thank you Sharon. but unfortunately I was in hospital when the pendent arrived at the funeral home and no was available to go and pick it up but my daughter phoned Sharon and explained to her our situation and Sharon arranged it for the pendent to be delivered to our house so they went out of they way to deliver the pendent i think it was either john or Ian who came and delivered it and I would like to thank you for doing that it was very much appreciated so thank you all again for looking after my dad and for making my dads final journey so special ❤️

Thank you for your support at this difficult time. I have never had to arrange a funeral before sadly my precious mom left us. C& A Reed were supportive every step of the way Ian kept us updated. And we was told when mum was in there care. You reassured dad and he felt happy mom was being taken care of. The celebrant Fiona was such a big hearted lady and her words brought so much comfort.

The service was beautiful and little touches on the day were very much appreciated.

I cannot recommend them enough.

I will be buying a plan for myself in the near future.

Thank you C&A Reed x

We can't rate these people high enough, and highly recommend them, from start to finish all the staff showed such respect, compassion, and professionalism. Our grateful thanks to Ian, our initial frist contact with them, Sharon, who handled the funeral arrangements, and John, who arranged getting the funeral cars to our house, and our special thanks to John for walking in front of the hearse, we didn't expect that and grately appricated it. We were so impressed with them, we arranged our funeral plans with them. More special thanks to Sharnon, who help us arrange our funeral plans and explained everything so clearly. We highly recomend them, and have recommentd them to our family.
