Frequently asked questions

When someone dies, the first steps will depend on how and where the person passed away. Our step-by-step guides will walk you through the practical steps. For additional support and personal advice, please get in touch with us.

You don't have to make an appointment at our funeral homes. However, doing so will ensure that someone can be available to cater to your needs. When arranging a funeral, our Funeral Directors are happy to visit you in your own home, if required.

Third party funeral costs are additional charges which we will manage for you and attach to your single invoice. Get in touch with us to confirm costs and plan a funeral to fit your budget.

If you choose to arrange the funeral with us, you will be given the option of a complimentary Funeral Notice. We will set it up for you using the details discussed during the arrangements. All we need is an email address.

Dignity Funeral Plans let you pay for your funeral in advance and at today's price. It's a way of taking control of the unexpected, setting out the arrangements and limiting the costs by paying for the services included in the funeral plan upfront.

We are a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors and as such we abide by The Funeral Director Code. We also have a legal obligation to try and ensure the person who is arranging a funeral has the right to do so, or has permission from those who do.

If you are aware that someone has been appointed as the administrator, you should only arrange the funeral with this person's agreement.

If there is no Will or Letters of Administration, then the responsibility would pass to the next of kin.

From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.

A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.

Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

I could not fault them - Rachel and her team took great care of us from start to finish. I’d have no hesitation in recommending Patrick’s. It was a relief to feel I was in safe hands

I am so pleased that I chose HC Patrick for my late husband’s funeral, the wonderful Emma was amazing from the first telephone call I had with her right up until I collected my husband’s possessions and fingerprints. The care and compassion shown to me and my children was outstanding and I will be forever grateful to Emma for getting us through the darkest of days.

Do not recommend. No introduction upon entry to the premises and left to ask who had let us in. No tissues in either the interview room or chapel of rest . No customer service skills despite not being “their client “ and this phrase was used at every question rather than showing empathy for a bereaved 80 year old mother with different ways of expressing this a possibility. Despite being pre warned of mobility problems an alternative was not given and only when asked were we told that we could have gone to the Aldershot branch. No help to assist my mother to climb the 8/9 steps to the chapel of rest . Awful presentation of my brother even taking into account the lengthy delay in proceedings. Door slammed on us whilst exiting the premises, whilst providing no assistance to navigate the steps to get out. Worst service and experience I have ever seen in a funeral directors and would advise anyone to go elsewhere . If I could have given a zero score I would have!

I cannot recommend H C Patrick & Co enough. From the moment we met Emma, our funeral arranger, she was wonderful.

Rachael was also extremely helpful and we felt like we had a superb team to support us in the planning of my mum’s funeral. We were guided brilliantly through what was obviously a very emotional and upsetting time. Emma’s warmth and compassion shone through, and she went above and beyond to ensure all the arrangements were just right for my beautiful mum.

Nothing was too much trouble, communication was excellent and Emma’s supportive presence at the funeral was also much appreciated by me and the family. The pall bearers did a wonderful job too, as did our funeral car driver, Chris.

Everyone was so respectful, caring and kind, we really could not have received a better service. 100% recommend.
