From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

This funeral directors worked miracles for me when I lost my baby to a late miscarriage. The local hospital wanted to do a multi cremation and scatter my babies ashes- most hospitals arrange free individual cremation and offer you the ashes back. I had to pay out of pocket when I was 19 years old. Living in a hostel with a 9month old baby and an abusive partner. The lady I saw at this funeral directors arranged for it to cost as little as possible, arranged a free service with a local vicar and helped me to be able to get my babies ashes back. This meant everything to me at that time, I was alone, living a nightmare and Jonathan Walker funeral directors did more for me than anyone else ever did. I cherished those ashes and still do. God bless the lady who arranged my babies cremation, may she receive eternal blessings. This was 10 years ago. I will never forget what you did for me.
My dearest sister-in-law was laid to rest last week. (31:1:25)

I have recently used their services for my late wife, and what can I say about the profession, caring & understanding attitude & approach. From start to finish. Ellie, Marie & the whole team made the whole process effortless & as pain-free as possible. I cannot recommend their services enough! From my entire family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts ❤️❤️❤️❤️.
We cannot explain our gratitude to Jonathan Walker for the handling our Cousins funeral. Ellie and Paige were amazing from every step of what was a heartbreaking experience. They handled our loved one with such dignity and care and you wouldn’t want anybody else. Ellie has stayed in contact following the funeral with such understanding following bill payment and organising the gravestone. 3 Months on and we are greeted by name and genuine care.
The gentleman who ran the funeral procession was also amazing from start to finish and made an extremely difficult day manageable and Geraldine is also a pleasure to be around in the office!
If I could leave more stars I would. We went ahead with Jonathan Walker for our Masonry and if ever needed will carry to use them in the future.
