From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

Professional service from the initial contact right through to the burial. They kept us updated every step of the way and were always on hand to answer any queries that we had. Their attention to detail and compassion shown to us as a family was second to none.
I wouldn’t hesitate using their services again.
Thank you so much for this lovely review which means all the more at this very challenging time. The team are working very hard to ensure that each family receives outstanding care and I am so glad their dedication has given you the service you needed.
I was very impressed by the way the Staff I dealt with at Ginns and Gutteridge helped me with all things not mentioned directly on my father's funeral plan.
Nothing was too much trouble and with all the stress of losing my father, they made things more straight forward and easier for me.
Not only was the person I dealt with Sally very kind and helpful, but she had two trainees with her, and they will certainly make good members of the team. When I had to phone up and speak to another member of Staff, I was shown the same courtesy and I felt like everything mattered to them.
On the Friday 8th July the day of my father's Cremation, the Usher, Scott was extremely helpful and very attentive to my every need. He explained what was due to happen and how everything would take place and everything went smoothly. I was so impressed that when I decide to do my own funeral plan, I will definitely be using Ginns and Gutteridge again.
Thank you all very much for making a very stressful day go smoothly and without a hitch. I will also recommend yourselves to any of my friends who need Funeral Directors.
Thank you for entrusting us with the care of your Father. We take pride in giving outstanding service so we take pride in giving outstanding service to our families. We know how special each person is and aim to convey this in all aspects of our work from the arrangements to the day of the service.
Ginns and Gutteridge handled all the arrangements for my step-mother’s funeral in a most professional and sensitive manner. Special thanks to Kimberely Tyler, who personally ensured that all of the family’s requirements were fully met. Mr Graham Vyse

After losing my mother we as a family wanted to do the very best for her and arrange a personal funeral for her .So we decided to use the Dignity Evington village Leicester, funeral directors, from the moment we rang we knew we had chosen the right company, Imogen was perfect she was professional, knowledgeable, yet so kind and patient, nothing was too much trouble, all our wishes were met,and when we changed our minds on things it was dealt with effectively, she had to ask difficult questions but she did it in a way that didn't distress us.
Once the funeral was arranged we were then introduced to another team who took us through things for the day and again with the same kindness and professional manner, the team rang to introduce themselves and explain what would happen, they also asked how we all were which was a lovely thing to do,
We weren't put under any pressure to buy the most expensive things, it was made clear the important thing was we got what we wanted,
Wonderful caring staff.
