We aim to provide the best service that we possibly can, so you and your family can pay your respects to someone dear to you in a way that is both personal and meaningful.
Before joining with three other funeral homes in County Durham to create Meynell & Mason Funeral Directors, we were simply known as Meynells Funeral Services. John Meynell established the family business in 1910 with their first funeral home in Darlington. Fast forward to 1996, we were their second funeral home to help provide support to the wider area. We are also a part of Dignity, as we continue to thrive whilst providing the same high standards which John Meynell was renowned for.
You can find us on Stephenson Way in Newton Aycliffe, ready to provide professional and respectful funeral care to local families.

From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

I have recently lost my husband and the
thought of having to plan his funeral was
frightening.
Some time ago my husband and I had taken out a plan for both of us, we had been paying into ... exactly for this very
purpose ... I was so very pleased I had.
I was a little bit wary that Dignity meant
I couldn't choose a funeral director from
my own town! However, I was not disappointed... far from it.
The planning and implementation of the
funeral was faultless and memorable.
Every wish was carried out with dignity
and professionalism.
I have the utmost respect and I am indebted to DIGNITY & Meynell & Mason
for my husbands funeral.
I cannot thank Helen and all of the team for their care and respect that they showed my Dad and all of my family. From the minute they came out to us in the middle of the night and the recommendation of the lovely Celebrant who conducted the funeral. Their attention to detail was absolutely fantastic. A big thank you to the driver of the car who was so patient with us as we had an elderly dog in the car as well. I am so happy that the funeral plan that Dad had taken out allowed them to take control of the funeral and we were able give him the send off that he would have loved.
Losing my father is easily the hardest moment I've been through my entire life. A google review will never be able to display the amount of gratitude I have for Jackie at Meynell & Mason. From the get go she was kind, compassionate and so incredibly efficient. She did what was needed to proceed with the cremation of my father whilst adding that personal touch. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
So glad i chose meynell and mason for my husbands funeral. They were so kind, conciderate. They helped in every way they could because i had no idea, they were outstanding on the day, patient and understanding when visiting my home and in the office. Tracey and Jackie i wouldn't of coped without your help and kindnesses.
Thank you to everyone
I cannot recommend highly enough the services of John Meynells in Aycliffe. From the first interaction I had within hours of my fathers passing they were fantastic. Tracey put all of us at ease and took us through the process. They looked after Dad really well, keeping us informed of everything and they were always at the end of a phone if we needed anything. The day itself was beautiful, our driver Maurice was lovely and the whole team looked after us so well. I have never had to go through anything like this before, but genuinely I cannot praise them enough, they made what was a difficult and upsetting time go much better than I could have ever anticipated. Thank you
Thank you for your online review. It has been a privilege to support your family and care for your Dad. We are proud of the whole team.
