From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

Our experience with Relph s was amazing both our loved one and our family were very well looked after , we would recommend them to anybody going through what we did at such a bad time , everybody involved made our experience so much easier to cope with
This company handled my husband's funeral on 21st July 2023 & I can't thank them enough - my husband was a middlesbrough fan & the little touches they put in place were above and beyond - they took it upon themselves to add the club badge to the order of service - arranged for a retired goal keeper to be a pal bearer & for a middlesbrough fan to conduct the ceremony - thank to Lisa & James who organised the funeral & delivered the eulogy with such compassion and understanding - also thank you to the 2 receptionists in the Marton office who handed me tissues and sat & listened when I cried - they made sure that I got his possessions back that I asked for - I would also like to thank the driver who made sure we got there safely - this must have been very hard for him as he had recently lost his dad -thank you again to everyone that was involved as you made such a heartbreaking time that little bit easier
Outstanding service and would highly recommend. Extremely professional and understanding which is all you need when you have lost a loved one.

I would highly recommend Relph & Teesside Funeral Directors as their services have been exemplary.
I was kept up-to-date with every step of my late husband's journey into their care and up-dated on a regular basis and with all aspects of the funeral service and what to expect on the day of his funeral service.
On my behalf they arranged the flowers, organised the celebrant and sorted out the music and for this I cannot thank them enough.
From day one all members staff have been courteous and very kind and considerate when speaking to me both on the telephone and in the office and I cannot praise them enough for all their care and attention.
Thanks to Relph & Teesside Funeral Directors everything went smoothly on the day and once again I would highly recommend that you use their services
Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review. It is incredibly helpful to other families in the same circumstances as yourself. I am pleased that we provided the highest level of care and guidance for you and your family.
Compassionate team, very professional & took care of all our needs.
Would highly recommend.
