From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

Trevor morritts funeral directors were absolutely first class in arranging both our mum and recently our dads funeral
without their caring considerate compassion and professionalism we would not have known where to start
We cannot thank them enough and without hesitation would recommend their services to anyone
Steve bailey
Dear Steve, Thank you so much for your heartfelt words. It was truly our privilege to support you and your family through such significant moments. We're deeply grateful for your trust in us to care for both your mum and dad's arrangements. Your kind recognition of our team's compassion and professionalism means the world to us. On behalf of everyone at Trevor Morritt's, thank you again for your recommendation — it’s the highest compliment we could receive.
Incredible service. My dad had a direct funeral. So no fuss. However Leah and Kevin went above and beyond. Leah even coming in before 7am on her day off so she could stand in her finery to see dad off on his final journey. There are no words to express how grateful I am for that. It was not expected. And to Kevin who sourced and played dad's choice of song to accompany him that last time. Thank you both. A credit to your profession
Thank you Kirstie for your 5 Star review. It is lovely to hear your lovely comments about Leah and Kevin and the way they have supported your family wishes for your Dad's direct cremation service. Both members of staff are honoured that you entrusted them and the wider team with your Dad's funeral. We hope you find comfort knowing that your dad was professional looked after on his final journey by our dedicated staff who supported you too.
Do you know when we dad is Lena
