From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

I can not recommend and praise enough how amazing Kerry, Jason and the whole team at T.F. Morritt have supported us over the last month as a family, after losing our mum. From my first telephone call and the appointment to make the funeral arrangements we have had nothing but kindness, care and compassion shown to us. Kerry made the planning of everything so straightforward, not stressful at all. We never felt rushed or pressured to make any decisions. We genuinely felt that our mum was in safe hands, being cared for with respect and dignity. They all made her final journey a beautiful one.
Thank you so much for your heartfelt review Elizabeth. We are deeply touched by your kind words and are grateful for the opportunity to support you and your family during such a difficult time. Kerry, Jason, and the entire team at T.F. Morritt strive to provide compassionate and respectful care, and it means a lot to us to know that we could make this challenging period a little easier for you. Your feedback reassures us that we are fulfilling our commitment to serve with kindness and dignity. Thank you once again for your trust and for sharing your experience. Warm regards, The T.F. T.F.Morritt Funeral Directors Knottingley Branch are truly exceptional.
The team are genuine, caring and knowledgeable. Our family had two unrelated deaths within 10 days. We came to T.F. Morritt through a Funeral Plan from our first deceased relative. They were truly amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and they were fully engaged, contact and communication was second to none.
When we then lost a second relative within 10 days T.F.Morritt were our first call and just knowing who would be looking after our relative was peace of mind in itself.
Sadly, I have dealt with many Funeral Directors over the years...and can honestly say T.F.Morritt Knottingley and the Out Of Hours Service for the firm, are above and beyond in every way.
I cannot recommend them enough.

My five-star review is heartfelt. Everything was done promptly, professionally, and with care. The attached services of stationery, flowers, and live streaming were all flawless, too. I can honestly recommend Jason, Kerry, and the team to do a professional and tasteful job at a very sad time.
Thankyou Deborah for your kind words about Jason, Kerry & the team. We are glad you found our services to be prompt, professional and caring. We are honoured to have been there to support and guide you.
